Support Untapped Talent in Your Organization!

IPSWICH, Mass. - Sept. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- EBSCO Publishing has just released a new book summary. In Untapped Talent, Dani Monroe explains how organizations can benefit from actively identifying and supporting untapped talent within their ranks. Arguing that up to 70 percent of an organization’s workforce is untapped, Monroe is an advocate for changing the traditional mindset of organizations when it comes to talent management. Rather than simply praising the top performers in a division, Monroe argues that workers who fly under the radar are also deserving of special attention. Moreover, managers need to look beyond a person’s external characteristics to focus on their underlying talents. By presenting a guidebook for helping managers both recognize and harness untapped talent, Monroe aims to help companies both large and small thrive in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

Dani Monroe offers readers the following advice:

·         Every organization has a hidden workforce. This workforce is made up of people who are hiding in plain sight and need a leader to help them reach their full potential.

·         Talent can go untapped for a variety reasons. These include lack of “fit” and lack of access. People may also simply be unprepared or unaware that their skillsets have multiple uses.

·         Unconscious bias often clouds a leader’s judgment. When managers judge a book by its cover, they may fail to see the value and talent of a given person.

·         Organizational changes come from “tapping the 70 percent.” In most organizations, the most effort is spent making the top 20 percent of high-performing workers happy, but engaging the 70 percent who are solid is of the utmost important. The remaining lowest 10 percent should be encouraged to leave, as they hamper productivity.

·         If your corporate culture is not growing, it is dying. Too many organizations fail to appreciate the culture of talent stewardship.

·         Technical skills and ability are important, but “soft skills” are equally important. Soft skills include teamwork, work ethic, and a positive attitude.

·         Being self-aware of one’s strengths is key component of success. Self-discovery is paramount for long-term success.

·         Resourcefulness, resilience, and resolve are the “three Rs” to ensure a competitive advantage in business. These characteristics of leadership are often overlooked.

In addition to a 7-10 page summary of the book, each Business Book Summary includes a Key Concepts section that outlines the main points of the book, an About the Author section that informs readers of the author’s background as well as their additional written works, and a Features of the Book Section that explains the special features found within the book.
