In ancient times, there was a boy whose sole responsibility was to make the sun rise for his village every morning. How did he accomplish such a monumental task? By dancing so passionately and fervently that the sun had no choice but to peek its out from behind the clouds and take notice. In the end, not only did the boy achieve his mission, but he did it so well that the sun actually rose and gave him a standing ovation for his efforts. Then, after a job well done, the boy would go home and return to repeat the ritual the very next day...

Such is the story told in The Sundancer. In it, author Ben Joy’s compelling narrative is brought to vivid life by the accompanying illustrations from artist Heather Payer-Smith. Progressing from stark black & white to lively, vivacious color, Payer-Smith’s artistic renderings provide the perfect backdrop for Joy’s quite imaginative tale, which is sure to appeal to readers young and old alike. With its underlying message about the individual greatness lying deep within us all, The Sundancer is an engaging, heartwarming read sure to bring a smile to your face. Highly recommended.
