By: SendingSunshine Volunteer MBC is the local volunteer centre for Peel Region. Its mission is to connect the community and improve lives through volunteerism by responding to the most pressing social issues in the community. The V-Oscars is an opportunity for Volunteer MBC and its members to show how much they appreciate outstanding volunteers. Sending Sunshine won the Youth Lead by Example Award. Emily Crowe, Co-Founder & Events Director of Sending Sunshine said, "I was honoured to celebrate the work of volunteers in Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon at the V-Oscars and especially with Lisa, the logistics coordinator at Sending Sunshine, who was nominated for Helping Hands Mississauga." Sending Sunshine, based in Mississauga, is a registered charity committed to reducing the negative impact of social isolation and loneliness among Canadian seniors. The volunteer-run corporation has experienced tremendous growth since inception in 2020. Over 150,000 uplifting cards and letters have been delivered to seniors at more than 650 care facilities and organizations, nationwide. Over 12,000 volunteers, students, and youth groups have contributed to this remarkable achievement. Crowe says, "We were overjoyed to win the Youth Lead by Example award, and grateful for this very special honour. Our volunteers allow Sending Sunshine to fulfill its mission and serve the elderly in our community."
