USAID & GAVS hosts the CSR conference on Gender Equality & Technology

Oct. 24, 2016 - PRLog -- GAVS Technologies along with USAID and partners harness technology to achieve gender parity

GAVS was the sponsoring host, and along with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. Consulate General Chennai, NextGen, the Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and the American Chamber of Commerce in India, held a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) dialogue, "Partnering for Change: Gender Equality & Technology" on Tuesday, October 18, 2016.

This was one of a series of CSR events organized by USAID around the theme of using technology to strengthen gender equality and empower girls. As U.S. Consul General in Chennai Phillip Min noted in his welcome remarks, "When women move forward, they bring the rest of society with them."

USAID has built high-impact partnerships to harness the power of innovation in promoting gender equality and empowerment in India.  Programs are built with the goal of finding new solutions to the persistent barriers preventing women's security and empowerment.

"We often speak about how the deepening U.S.-India relationship will lead to a more just, equitable, and prosperous world," said Consul General Min. "In both our countries, women and girls are breaking barriers and achieving what was once thought impossible.  The work that our two nations are doing today in collaboration with the private sector is laying the foundation for greater gender equality.  It is underpinned by our shared belief in the power of technology and innovation to do good."

Suresh Raman, Global Head of Human Resources at GAVS Technologies, also delivered welcome remarks.  Featured speakers included Sonia Shrivastava, Head of Vodafone Foundation in India; Harish Krishnan, Executive Director, Public Affairs & Strategic Engagements at Cisco; and Ryan Powell, Director of the India Engineering Center at Dow Chemical.
