Follow on Google News | ![]() Earthsave Whistler Invites Chefs to the Devilishly Decadent Vegan Dessert ChallengeThe challenge will take place at participating restaurants in Whistler, BC from November 1st – 14th to celebrate World Vegan Day and World Vegan Month.
Kicking off on World Vegan Day, November 1st, chefs are challenged to create and showcase their best vegan dessert(s), to be sold in their restaurants from November 1st to 14th. Diners will then vote online for the winners in three categories - 'Most Decadent', 'Most Creative', 'Best Overall'. Prizing for the chefs has been generously donated by Nesters Market and Vegan Supply. "I wanted to organise an event that shows how delicious and fun vegan dining can be." said Hayley Ingman, Co-Founder of Earthsave Whistler. "We have such talented and creative chefs in Whistler, but we seem to have a lack of vegan dessert options in restaurants, so this challenge gives chefs the opportunity to do something a little different and have fun with some new dessert options that they can present for the 2-week challenge." "When people hear the word, 'vegan' it often conjures up thoughts of deprivation and food that is unexciting," "However, it's not all that easy to find them in Whistler. Whistler has it's stand out gems when it comes to vegan dining, and certainly during the daytime you can find plenty of vegan muffins and cheezecakes. But when it comes to evening dining, vegan desserts are few and far between. For diners looking for that sweet vegan treat after dinner, their best bet is to hit up IGA or Nester's for a tub of creamy cashew salted caramel chocolate ice cream or an incredibly delicious New York Style Daiya vegan cheesecake. Why aren't more restaurants offering vegan desserts on their menus? We're not really sure, but we're hoping we can inspire them with this challenge." How it works: - Whistler Restaurants will offer one or more vegan dessert options as an addition to their regular menu for the period of November 1st to 14th. - Participating restaurants will be listed at www.earthsavewhistler.com/ - Whistler locals and visitors will eat out at the restaurants, enjoy the vegan desserts, and at the end of the challenge they will vote online for the winners out of each category (a poll will be posted on the website at the start of the challenge).
