Nancy Ferland Brings Passion for Healthcare to New Home Helpers & Direct Link Franchise

MYSTIC, Conn. - April 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Mystic, CT – Nancy Ferland has always had a passion for healthcare and now she’s turning that passion into a new business, Home Helpers & Direct Link in Southeast Connecticut.

“I have always had a passion for healthcare and helping people. I’m looking forward to bringing that to my own small business and to making a positive impact on our community,” Nancy said.

The desire to work in healthcare began back when Nancy’s seven-year-old daughter was diagnosed with an immune deficiency.

“At that time we lived 20 miles away from the closest rescue so I became an EMT. My daughter had to receive an IV every three weeks, but when she was sick, she needed IV antibiotics daily, so we had a visiting nurse come to our home. This in-home-care helped my daughter deal with her situation because she felt more comfortable at home. That experience helped me realize how much I loved caring for others and how important home care could be,” Nancy said.

Nancy then trained to be a certified nursing assistant and worked in hospice and for a nursing home, where she found how much she enjoyed working with seniors and those with Alzheimer’s.

“I loved working with seniors, but I left the job to work at Foxwoods Resort Casino to make ends meet. I enjoyed working as the poker room supervisor and I worked at Foxwoods for 13 years, but it just wasn’t satisfying for me. I wanted to get back into healthcare, but I wanted to do it right. That’s when I came across Home Helpers and Direct Link,” she said.

Home Helpers & Direct Link offer free in-home consultations and works with each client to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on a person’s individual needs. Services offered include companionship, personal hygiene, meal preparation and transportation, as well as medical services such as medication management, vital signs monitoring and care management.
