Through the support of her family and community she was able to gain a foothold on a positive attitude which was paramount to her healing. 15 years along the road she and I still discuss how important organizations like Willow are to helping women who are winning the battle against cancer."
They’re fun, they’re colourful, they’re cheeky and they’ve become a tradition at Eat to the Beat. Adding class with a bit of sass, breast cancer survivors will be modeling original food-inspired corsets that they have created.
The evening also includes live music, a silent auction featuring must-have items, and a raffle draw for a chance to win great prizes.
Highlighted as one of Toronto’
s top 15 Food, Wine and Hospitality events by BizBash magazine, Eat to the Beat has raised more than $3.3 million for Willow.
“When you buy a ticket to Eat to the Beat, you are helping someone get through the dark days of breast cancer,”
states Jeffrey Beach, Executive Director of Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada. “
Proceeds go directly to our programs and services that pass on strength and knowledge to people across Canada who need Willow’
s caring and expertise to help them navigate the challenges that come with a breast cancer diagnosis.”
In 2013 an estimated 23,800 women and 200 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in Canada. From the individual diagnosed, to their family, friends and caregivers, Willow provides free support and information today for those who cannot wait for tomorrow’
s cure.
The Early Years of Eat to the Beat
From their early days as entrepreneurs at Bagel Works to being the creative and driving force behind Eat to the Beat for the past 18 years, Lisa and Abby Slater have worked to support the community in which they live. After attending a fundraiser for Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada, Abby was inspired by the courage and strength of the breast cancer survivors who spoke at the event and knew that she wanted to help further Willow’
s mission to ensure that no one needs to face breast cancer alone. The Slater sisters lent their experience working in the restaurant business to create a signature event to benefit Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada. They invited and quickly gained the support of female chefs, who were at the time the unrecognized heroines of the kitchen. Lisa and Abby’s business acumen combined with a delicious sense of humour and the will to make a positive difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer has resulted in Eat to the Beat being one of the most important fundraising events in Toronto.
