PHILADELPHIA - May 1, 2013 - PRLog -- RateTea, an online community where anyone can rate and review teas, classifies single-origin teas to the level of Chinese provinces, and sometimes individual counties.  RateTea recently added county-level detail to Yunnan province, the province famous for being the origin of Pu-erh as well as the Dian Hong (Yunnan Red) styles of tea.

This new feature is currently the only resource available on the web which has a database of teas from different brands and companies, indexed by their locations of production in Yunnan province.

The county pages feature original maps showing the counties locations in Yunnan province, as well in in their respective prefectures (a division larger than counties but smaller than provinces), listings of teas from these regions, reviews, and brief articles on the traditions and practices of tea productions in each county.  As enough data becomes available, the pages will also contain listings of top-rated teas from each county.

The initial counties listed are Fengqing, Lancang, Menghai, Simao, and Yongde.  Menghai is famous for being the location of the Menghai Tea Factory.  Simao, the administrative center of the Pu'er region.  This region produces green tea as well as Pu-erh.  Lancang is the location of the Jing Mai mountains, famous for Pu-erh as well as moonlight white tea (yueguang bai cha).

RateTea will add more counties as teas identified as being produced in these regions become listed on their site.  The site currently has 12 reviews of Yunnan teas with county-level detail, and lists 15 individual single-county teas.  Since most tea companies in Western Countries do not share this much detail about the origins of their teas, these numbers will likely climb as more tea companies respond to inquiries and provide information about the origin of their Yunnan teas.
