Grant Awarded to the Detroit Public Library Develops Tomorrow’s Innovative Leaders

Detroit Public Library announces the continuation of the HYPE Makerspace program this fall. The program was able to continue thanks to a grant awarded to the library’s HYPE Center from the Cognizant Making the Future education initiative.

Sept. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- The Detroit Public Library announces the continuation of the Detroit Public Library HYPE Makerspace program this fall.  The program was able to continue thanks to a grant awarded to the library’s HYPE Center from the Cognizant Making the Future education initiative.  The purpose of the HYPE Makerspace is to encourage young adult interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) through hands-on experimenting and creating.

“We are offering variety of 'maker' workshops this fall, from Arduino Bots/Robotics to Graphic Design, and so much more.” said Steve Teeri of the HYPE Makerspace.  “The HYPE Makerspace strives to be a leader and innovator in the burgeoning library makerspace movement.  

Focused on the inspiring the passion for learning in young adult , the HYPE Makerspace celebrates the spirit of invention, creativity and do-it-yourself (DIY) culture.  Through this initiative, the HYPE Teen Center and the Makerspace program is able to connect with teens on many different levels and the assortment of workshops offered this fall reflect that.  

Workshops at the HYPE Makerspace include: Introduction to Soldering, Arduino Robotics, Music Electronics, Bike Tech, Graphic Design, Sewing/Wearables and DIY Crafting.
