Shift2Neutral congratulates the Australian Government on putting a price on carbon

Shift2Neutral announced today it congratulates the Australian Government on putting a price on carbon and welcomes open discussion on the CARBON PRICE FRAMEWORK.

The Board of Directors and Shareholders of Shift2Neutral believe it is an important way forward for Australia and believe it is important to engage the community and business in an open and meaningful discussion around the CARBON PRICE FRAMEWORK.

To quote the Australian Government Press Release

"The Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, outlined the Government’s plan to cut pollution, tackle climate change and deliver the economic reform Australia needs to move to a clean energy future.  

This is an essential economic reform, and it is the right thing to do.

The two-stage plan for a carbon price mechanism will start with a fixed price period for three to five years before transitioning to an emissions trading scheme. "

Shift2Neutral further advised the establishment of a Multi-Party Climate Change Committee  and CLIMATE COMMISSION Chaired by PROFESSOR TIM FLANNERY will help establish the baseline and structure for Australia.  We also feel it is imperative that the program is truly global and not viewed as a closed country scheme whereby businesses and consumers are forced to offset their emissions by credits derived from one entity or certified only in Australia.
