Terry Jones of Gainesville Related To Jim Jones? His distorted idea of Christianity and scripture is resulting in his plan to burn copies of the Quran this Saturday 9/11/2010 in protest of the loss of life nine years ago. His congregation has apparently drunk the cool aid. Evangelicals condemn.
By: Randy Kirk & Associates The article points out the aspects of the Koran or Quran that, under Jone's interpretation are "of the Devil," and threatening to Jews, Americans and the world. Jones has even written a book titled "Islam is the Devil." Then the blog turns its attention to the scriptural basis for this act which otherwise seems to fly in the face of Christ's teaching. He cites Act 19 from the Amplified Bible. 18Many also of those who were now believers came making full confession and thoroughly exposing their [former deceptive and evil] practices. 19And many of those who had practiced curious, magical arts collected their books and [throwing them, book after book, on the pile] burned them in the sight of everybody. When they counted the value of them, they found it amounted to 50,000 pieces of silver (about $9,300). 20Thus the Word of the Lord [concerning the attainment through Christ of eternal salvation in the kingdom of God] grew and spread and intensified, prevailing mightily. It would be a huge stretch for even the most liberal interpretation to make his case. The decision by these individuals to burn the books that they had turned from when deciding to follow Christ can't be a justification for Christians to burn the books of those with whom they disagree, no matter how vile they might find the writings. As you continue to read the blog and letters to the church on the website, you can't help but despair at the vile comments of those who are now following this pastor on his journey into insanity. The website provides ample evidence of just how much this church is enjoying the megalomanical efforts of their leader. The news section proudly trumpets the fact that the local fire department has denied them a permit and that armed "Christians" Somehow the irony is lost on both sides of this circumstance. Jones fails to see that while he may have a constitutional right to free speech which would include burning the Quran, the insensitivity of the act is anything but Christian. Meanwhile, those who would support the building of the ground zero Mosque can't see the irony of the insensitivity of the Muslims while easily getting that Terry Jones is completely wrong. One could hope that this is Jone's point, and that he will ultimately end this movement, laugh at mixed up reactions to both, and return to Christian principles of "meeting unbelievers where they are." In the meantime, should he continue and pull off this stunt, we can further hope that every national leader of the Christian Church will roundly condemn this action, and become personally involved in stopping Terry Jones and his followers. # # # The New Yellow Pages for Local Business is optimizing website visibility through Google Maps, websites, YouTube, LSE's, Forums, and other methods.
