Follow on Google News | Unique Encounters in The Middle East Led to The Umbrellas Of HamelinSue draws inspiration from her experiences of having lived and worked in the Middle East. From the quirks of expat society to the feral cats, her unique encounters add authenticity to her storytelling. She adopted a feral cat called Whites when living in Saudi Arabia. The most eccentric of her many feline companions, Whites is the role model for the cat in the story Talky Tin. Talking about the anthology, Sue says, "This collection comprises some very old stories alongside some recent ones, and it has been interesting to reflect on the inspirations behind each, and also on my own changing attitudes. I have put some of these reflections into short afternotes on some of the stories, providing readers with an additional layer of insight." Dan Grubb, CEO of Fantastic Books Publishing, commends Sue Knight's writing style, stating, "Sue's short story style is that every word earns its place, and if it doesn't, it's out. You will find shades of Ray Bradbury, Saki, Daphne du Maurier, and Fay Weldon in Sue's stories. She transports her readers from horror to humour and from holidays to encounters with extraterrestrial beings. And each one is a polished gem."
