Early alarm in case of fire in IT rack

MÜNSTER, Germany - March 31, 2021 - PRLog -- Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) do not adequately protect their IT or server room. Often there is no smoke detector in the IT or server room, so a possible fire is not detected and reported in time. The causes of a fire in the server room and server cabinet can be manifold. Often, a fire in the EDP and server room is caused by electricity. Also an overheated server, an overloaded power strip or a defective power supply, can cause a smoldering fire within the IT infrastructure. Often, a fire is deliberately set after a break-in in order to permanently destroy any traces. Once the fire department is in front of the company, it may already be too late. The data on the servers and backup systems can be irretrievably destroyed by fire in a very short time.

Even if possible backups and images are available after the fire in the IT or server room, several days can pass until the cause of the fire has been clarified and the insurance company has settled the fire damage. It can also take valuable time to replace hardware and restart IT systems. In the worst case, an IT outage caused by a server room fire can completely paralyze the entire productivity of the affected business for several days and weeks.

Didactum Security GmbH offers suitable smoke detectors and associated alarm systems. Even the entry-level model in terms of IT and server room monitoring, the networked Didactum Monitoring System 50, can be equipped with an optical smoke detector. If the connected smoke detector detects smoldering fire, smoke or open fire, the Monitoring System 50 sends messages and alarms by e-mail and / or SMS (via GSM modem or e-mail to SMS server). The content of the alarm can be customized via macro function. Via integrated relay outputs of the monitoring system, the fire alarm can also be signaled via strobe lights or alarm sirens with built-in stroboscopic flashing lights, so that employees on site are alerted in good time. Customers using network monitoring tools such as Nagios, Check-MK, PRTG or Zabbix can integrate the SNMP-compatible Didactum monitoring systems and the smoke detectors connected to them into their network monitoring. MIB files and plugins are an integral part of the networked monitoring hardware from the manufacturer Didactum.

More information about smoke detectors for IT and server rooms is available at https://www.fire-detection.com. Under https://www.monitoring-hardware.com installation instructions are offered around the networked IT monitoring solutions of the manufacturer Didactum.
