Smoke detectors for serverroom monitoring

MÜNSTER, Germany - Oct. 27, 2020 - PRLog -- The server room is one of the most important areas in a company. If important IT systems fail, employees are often no longer able to work. If a fire breaks out in the computer system or server room, the resulting damage (data loss) can be very large under certain circumstances.

Due to the high concentration of electrical devices in the 19-inch server cabinet, such as server, storage and network components, as well as their permanent operation, the fire risk in the IT or server room can be considered relatively high. Even a simple defect in a power supply unit can be the cause of a fire. The fire loads present in the IT rack, such as the plastic housings of the IT systems or the insulation of cold appliance and network cables, can cause the EDP or server room to be enveloped in a toxic, black fog in the event of a fire.

To ensure that a fire can be detected and reported in time, it is recommended that suitable smoke detectors be installed in the server room. The Westphalian provider of IT security technology, the company Didactum Security GmbH from Münster, offers optical smoke detectors and associated network monitoring hardware. If the installed smoke detector detects the development of smoke and fire, the connected network monitoring hardware immediately reports the danger.

The monitoring systems have important actuator functions in the form of an automatic relay circuit for signalling to the building management system or alarm system. In addition, the network monitoring hardware of Didactum offers important e-mail and SMS alarm functions. The content of the alarm message can be customized with the support of Didactum macro function. The alarm card integrated in the German web interface, can the critical smoke detector via Live Sensor Mapping function even flashing.

The network-based monitoring systems of the manufacturer Didactum work independently. The installation of an app on the smartphone or software on the PC or server is not required for operation. The configuration and operation is done via the German and responsive web interface. In addition, each system supports the world's widely used SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). In addition to the network protocols SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c, the network monitoring hardware from Didactum also offers the encrypted SNMPv3 protocol.

If the smoke detector detects the emergence of a fire in the technology, computer or server room, the monitoring hardware sends so-called SNMP traps over LAN / WAN. The smoke detector is equipped with an SNMP OID, so that a direct remote inquiry via network or Internet is supported. This allows customers to integrate the network monitoring hardware and the connected smoke detector into SNMP-compatible building automation solutions and network monitoring software.
