Follow on Google News | Bach's "Toccata, Adagio, and Fugue" BWV 564 arranged for Woodwind QuartetThis big organ work by J. S. Bach is particularly well-suited for winds, and Noteworthy Sheet Music has just published an excellent arrangement for flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon by John W. Pratt.
NSM has just released its latest publication, a superb arrangement for woodwind quartet of J. S. Bach's Toccata, Adagio, and Fugue in C major, BWV 564 created by John W. Pratt. As noted by Mr. Pratt in his foreword to the edition, among Bach's big organ works this piece "is atypical in ways that make it unusually well-suited to transcription for woodwind quartet". Mr. Pratt treats the manual passage of the lively Toccata as a fun-to-play game of frequent handoffs between the wind instruments. The lovely Adagio has "an elaborate and gorgeous melody which lies comfortably for flute and can benefit greatly from the shaded, nuanced dynamics and articulations that a solo flutist can provide. /// The four-part Fugue is unusual, too—light and lighthearted, happily adaptable to woodwinds ...". This adaptation for wind quartet is somewhat challenging and great fun to play. For additional information about Mr. Pratt's arrangement of the Bach Toccata, Adagio, and Fugue, including a free preview page of the score, check out the listing page for the edition on the NSM website at https://www.noteworthysheetmusic.com/ Visit https://www.noteworthysheetmusic.com/ End
