Follow on Google News | The journey to stardom of the first global representatives of It's Showtime's Tawag ng TanghalanGlobal Filipinos rally behind Steven Paysu and Makoto Inoue as they pursue their dreams on top-rating Filipino variety show "It's Showtime's" segment grand finals airing this June via TFC
In December of last year, Paysu and Inoue became the first ever global representatives to advance to the grand finals of the widely watched Philippine variety show "It's Showtime's" iconic segment. Battling hundreds of aspirants from the auditions to the semi-final round, both eventually emerged victorious at the competition dubbed the "all-time favorite search for outstanding amateur talents" Paysu first caught the attention of the judges for his unique performance on stage, stooping forward to emphasize his emotion over a song, a stage movement which the "It's Showtime" hosts in one episode called as the anti-thesis to Asia's Queen of Songs Pilita Corales' backbend. The judges were not only amazed by his stage presence but also by his voice. No less than multi-awarded singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid was impressed by Paysu's rendition of his original compositions "Bakit Ngayong Ka Lang". Alcasid explained, "If you are a song writer like me, you consider your compositions as your children. And when other singers perform it on stage, as if the songs were their own and these artists were adopting them, I can't describe the feeling." Alcasid half-jokingly said about Paysu, "I feel pleased and humbled. He is better than me! He is different." Paysu, an American Red Cross lab technician could not contain his amazement, more so on how he, a former band member, has come this far to become someone who can arguably be called a household name. "Now, I get a lot of attention from our fellow Filipinos, also I have a lot of friends' request on Facebook. People have been trying to reach out to me and my wife," Paysu shares. What's more important for Paysu is how his and wife Melanie's story has changed his new friends' lives. Paysu shared: "We were told that we were an inspiration to them. It's a big blessing being a part of Tawag ng Tanghalan". Inoue is equally in awe of the opportunities coming his way since he won the region finals and now a slot in the grand finals. Makoto shares: "I am still surprised at the outcome of my journey and I am just excited for what's waiting for me inside ABS-CBN, back in the Philippines." During one of the performances, judge Mitoy Yonting, former "The Voice of the Philippines" According to Inoue, the journey was not easy and 'Tawag ng Tanghalan' helped him believe in what he could bring to the table. "It has definitely changed my life. The moment I became a grand finalist, I started to believe in myself again." He adds: "I almost gave up on my dreams. I was rejected and turned down but Tawag ng Tanghalan gave me an opportunity to fight for my dreams and lead me a few steps closer to my dream."
