Giving Day: Adelphi Community Shows Its 'Heart of Gold' on March 21

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - March 15, 2018 - PRLog -- Adelphi University alumni, parents, students and friends around the world will show their Panther pride on Wednesday, March 21, for Adelphi's Giving Day — helping raise funds for projects that will benefit local schools, those with swallowing disorders or dealing with breast cancer, along with approximately 18 other important causes.

The University's advancement team and student ambassadors will be in the University Center lobby from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to answer questions and accept donations – and gifts are also accepted online (https://auconnect.adelphi.edu/annual-fund/annualfund).

Here are some of the projects that will benefit from Giving Day:

The Alice Brown Early Learning Center (http://elc.adelphi.edu/) is fundraising to establish a magnet STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) wall providing a fun, interactive and innovative environment for toddler and Pre-K students to develop creative, critical and systems thinking.

The Hy Weinberg Center (http://education-csd.adelphi.edu/hy-weinberg-center/contact/) is planning to purchase surface electromyography (sEMG) equipment to provide biofeedback to their clients during rehabilitation exercises and track their progress to objectively understand when they achieve their goals. The addition of this equipment to our clinic will also help our students gain valuable experience in assessing and treating people with swallowing disorders.

Adelphi's Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program (http://breast-cancer.adelphi.edu/) is fundraising to help their specially-trained, professionally-supervised volunteers and social work staff provide comprehensive breast cancer services, support, referrals, and information to patients and their families.

The Ruth S. Ammon School of Education (http://education.adelphi.edu/)  will add a STEAM component to the P.E.A.C.E. Summer Camp which partners with Adelphi by providing opportunities for students to serve as role models to local youth while engaging in best practices in the less structured summer camp setting. Students will choose from a menu of engineering (robotics), programming (robotics), game design, outdoor games, chess, board games, filmmaking, and arts and crafts projects to create a product for presentation on Camp Day.

Adelphi's Department of Anthropology (http://anthropology.adelphi.edu/) will be fundraising to reduce the student cost to attend the Summer Field School in Greece providing a hands-on experience in excavation, recovery and study at a renown burial ground. The Center for International Education (http://study-abroad.adelphi.edu/) will also be fundraising to "Help Panthers Fly" by offsetting the costs of airline tickets for students to study abroad.
