By: Kiwanis Club of Greater South Cobb Named for Canadian entrepreneur Walter Zeller, the Walter Zeller Fellowship is an opportunity designed exclusively for The Eliminate Project. Through The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) — a disease that kills nearly 49,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. All Walter Zeller Fellows receive a special medallion, lapel pin and certificate. Lust's contribution will help more than 690 women and babies fight maternal and neonatal tetanus. If those women each gave birth to just one child, those 690 children could receive 251,850 goodnight kisses per year, give their parents 1 million hugs a year, form 62 soccer teams and fill 27 kindergarten classes. Lust served as president of the GSC Kiwanis in 2014-2015 and is now in his second term as treasurer and member of the board of directors. When Lust retired from IBM after 35 years, he and his wife Gail started the Tutoring Center in Powder Springs, where he serves many schools in South Cobb. About the Kiwanis Club of Greater South Cobb Organized in February of 2014, the Kiwanis Club of Greater South Cobb is one of the newest clubs in the state of Georgia. The chapter concentrates their service on children of the Austell, Mableton and Powder Springs communities. They sponsor a wide range of youth leadership and character development programs for children of all levels and ages in addition to a host of other programs, including leadership camps, art and music showcases, mentoring, reading and match assistance for elementary students, field trips, teacher appreciation events, and service projects designed to introduce youth to the value and the joy of serving their school, community, and nation.
