Follow on Google News | The Durham Department of Social Services Offers Low Income Energy AssistanceBy: Durham Social Services Residents can submit a LIEAP application at the Old Durham County Department of Social Services Building, located at 220 E. Main St. Applications will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Applications submitted by elderly persons, age 60 and older, or disabled persons receiving services through the Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS), will be accepted from December 1 through December 31, 2016. Households must include an elderly person age 60 and older or a disabled person receiving services through DAAS. Disabled persons are defined as receiving Supplemental Social Security Income, Social Security Disability, or Veterans Administration disability. Applications for all other households will be taken from January 3-March 31, 2017 or until funds are exhausted. In preparation for the application process, interested residents should collect required supporting documents and bring them along to submit with the LIEAP application. Applicants must bring a picture ID, a valid social security number for each household member, verification of all house hold income, and a copy of their heating bill with the account number.
