Brandon S. Mitchell Named New Assistant Director At Durham County Department of Social Services

 
DURHAM, N.C. - May 24, 2018 - PRLog -- Brandon Mitchell has spent a 25-year career with Durham County, employed by the Emergency Medical Services Department. He has now joined The Department of Social Services as the Assistant Director of Business Operations. Mitchell began his career as a paramedic and served dutifully in that role for 17 years. For two years he served as an educator, training all EMS and Fire Department employees ensuring that they were prepared for the tasks that they are challenged with daily. Mitchell also became head of Special Operations where he led large-scale events disaster response, dive, and SWAT teams, and helped coordinate with the state of North Carolina when emergency staff was needed to assist in natural disasters. For the last five years of his career at Emergency Medical Services Brandon Mitchell's title was Administration Finance Chief.

"In some ways I see EMS work like that of a social worker. Even though you are looking to serve residents' medical needs, often you are also connecting them to other resources to help them," said Mitchell. "My goal is to be the most impactful. Government roles provide the opportunity to serve our most vulnerable citizens. My soft spot is for our elderly."

As one of the largest agency's in Durham County, Mitchell's impact as the Assistant Director of Business Operations will be significant as his primary role is of maintaining the agency's $60 million budget.

Mitchell began his new position on May 14, 2018. He will report directly to the Director of Durham County DSS Ben Rose.

Mitchell resides in Durham, with his wife Heather and two daughters, Olivia 7 and Isabella 3.
