Hate crimes on growth in Australian universities

BRISBANE, Australia - July 21, 2016 - PRLog -- A new surge of racism in the university campus. Three students boarded a bus in the early morning. They were black students, surrounded by white students in the bus. As the bus was about to reach the Albany main campus of the State University of New York the fight started. When these students got down from the bus, they immediately called the police. According to their statements, they were attacked by white people, who punched at their heads, and were also yelling racial slangs at them. Naturally, being an issue involving racist allegations happening in a university campus, the issue raised to the national importance in no time. Even, on twitter Hilary Clinton supported those students. According to an academic expert at ExpertAssignmentHelpwho often visits the University, "It appeared to many people that a horrible, hateful violent crime had taken place on our campus". However, the entire episode took an unbelievable turn when the police presented their report based on the video recording of the entire episode. After spending a lot of time in reviewing the audio recording to understand what has happened that day, the Chief of University Police Department, J. Frank Wiley stated that, "The only person we heard uttering racial epithets was one of the defendants". The same is informed to those three students, and they were charged with assaults and false reporting. On the basis of this evidence, the university student council has taken decision to punish them for their misconduct, while two of them are completely expelled from the university, one is just suspended.

After this unprecedented turn in the entire issue, a lot students are not really very happy about the way the university managed this from the very beginning. A senior student stated, "You heard a story, immediately took it to be true, and sent out an email to the student and faculty body, indicting 10 to 12 students for their crimes". Some students are also worried about whether this incident can stem further racial hatred among students. After the initial reports came, various student organizations started organizing discussion forums to be able to promote the sense of fairness and acceptance in the campus. Now, with the report proving that those three students are lying, many of the students in the campus feel that this could lead to a larger backlash, as in the future no one will believe a genuine victim of racism and might consider the entire incident of oppression as a mere constructed story.

Although, the police had put an end to this case by producing conclusive evidence, a substantial amount of students feels that the evidence were not really conclusive as the video footage were found incomplete. An activist group in a series of open letter expressed that the university tried to put an end to the case as fast as possible. And they told "If you are a black woman attacked in Albany, do not defend yourself, and do not call the police", protesting against putting criminal charges on those three students.
