Though it comes in at just shy of 50 pages, Vengeance is such an intricate, multi-layered tale that the reader can’t help coming away from it thoroughly impressed. What appears to be a light, fantastical short story is actually a deftly crafted yarn of deep emotion, and even deeper drama.

At the heart of the story are the pain and anguish felt by the half-Elven Mariah and her human husband Ashton, who have sworn revenge for the death of their beloved daughter. What begins as a personal vendetta, though, soon morphs into an all-encompassing threat to the entire half-Elven race, as Ashton and Mariah’s vengeful quest threatens to consume them. In relating the emotional roller coaster on which the grieving parents find themselves, author M.K. Theodoratus’ masterful storytelling shines through. You don’t have to be a parent or have lost a child to connect emotionally with her protagonists in their pursuit of justice; such is the superb character development and knack for suspense displayed in Theodoratus’ page-turning tale.

Short but sweet, Vengeance is a fast-paced thriller by a proven literary talent. Quite the enjoyable read.
