“A Couple Of Blaguards” Coming to Chandler June 20thWickedly funny, poignant play about Irish brothers at the new Forum event center
By: Arizona Performing Arts Arizona Performing Arts will be presenting the wickedly funny and poignant play by Frank and Malachy McCourt on Saturday, June 20, at the new Forum Training and Events Center (formerly Fazio’s) in Chandler. The play about the lives of two Irish brothers was first introduced in 1988. Like the best-selling books by the McCourts, “A Couple of Blaguards” is an autobiographical account of their years growing up in poverty in Ireland and their immigration to America. According to Executive Producer and Director, Marney Austin, “This is a true tour de force for the actors who portray over 40 characters during the show. Blaquards is witty, irreverent, and a story about family and overcoming hardship.” Frank McCourt received international acclaim and the Pulitzer Prize in Literature for his memoir, “Angela’s Ashes,” which was also made into a film. Malachy McCourt is well-known for “A Monk Swimming,” his own satirical account of their rough childhoods and later success in New York City. The upcoming production features film and stage actors Alan Austin and Tom Koelbel in the roles of Frank and Malachy. Arizona Performing Arts presents stage shows and fundraisers at Theatre Artists Studio in Scottsdale and at venues throughout Arizona. Its division, Murder Ink Productions, has been producing interactive murder mysteries and customized team building events for corporations, resorts, and private parties since 1989. Last fall, Murder Ink introduced a monthly murder mystery series at the Forum located at 700 W. Warner Road in Chandler. The popular interactive productions allow audience members to participate in the show to solve a crime. Tickets for “A Couple of Blaguards” are $20 and are available at https://forum.ticketbud.com/ End
