Rotaract Club of HIT-K raises fund for the Durbar Team

On 19th September 2014 Rotaract Club of Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata organized a Football Fundraiser Tournament named Joga Bonito for the Durbar Team

KOLKATA, India - Sept. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- The Durbar Team consists of under 21 players who are the children of sex workers from SonagachTotal 8 teams including the Durbar team registered for the tournament. Among them the prominent ones were The Gopal United Football Club of South Kolkata, Manchester United Football Club, Kolkata, Heritage Institute’s Football Team, Football Team of Rotary International District 3291, Computer Science Engineering 2nd year and 3rd year Football Team of Heritage Institute and many more. Each team paid Rs. 1500 as registration charges apart from the Durbar Team and the total registration fund collected from all the 7 teams have been donated to the Durbar Team for their development in terms of providing healthy nutrition to all the players of the Durbar Team and also purchasing Football kits for them.
Talking to Mr. Biswajit Majumdar, the Coach of the Durbar Team, it was found that at present the team is suffering from a major financial crisis for which healthy nutrition as well as kits cannot be provided to them. “ Such tournament to raise funds are very much beneficial for us and through this we can afford healthy nutrition for each and every player which is very much essential as well as extra kit for playing football,” said Mr. Majumdar. He narrated the story behind the establishment of the whole Durbar team which started off with the foundation laid by Dr. Sarajit Jana, who wanted to start a Football Academy for the chidren of the sex workers of Sonagachi so that these people can stand at par with other citizens of the country and can be recognized for their wonderful talents in sports. Ultimately a Football Academy started off with the name “Durbar Football Academy” in Ramnagar, Baruipur. The aim was to lift this segment of the society along with other poor people who cannot afford to realize their dreams and transform this Football Academy into a Multi-sporting Academy where all types of sports will be available for them.
The Durbar Team consisted of 19 members and two of them participated in the Homeless World Cup 2013 at Poznan, Poland. Talking to Mr. Surojit Bhattacharya who participated in the Homeless World Cup 2013, he said that the opportunity given by Durbar Team for participation in such a world class event was highly appreciable. Moreover he said that this type of platform gave him experience and taught him the major skills of football which he can use to achieve his dream of playing in Open India Nationals. Another member also participated in “Airtel’s Rising Star Competition” held at Manchester. His name is Mr. Rajib Roy. He entered into a contract with FIFA for 2 years and he being a vital member of the Durbar team played in YMCA Kolkata IFA 3rd Division league. Often he coaches the nursery players of the Durbar Team.
The Preliminary matches of the Fundraiser Football Tournament Joga Bonito will be played today till 6 pm and will continue till 20th September when the final results will be declared at 6 pm.
