RALEIGH, N.C. - Feb. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- Award-winning novelist Ann Tatlock has been named Acquisitions and Managing Editor of a new, historical fiction imprint of Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas (LPC).  Eddie Jones, founder of the Raleigh-based publisher made the announcement this week, which adds another imprint to the six the publisher is bringing to the marketplace.  One of the nation’s fastest-growing publishers, LPC has focused on creating new outlets for emerging and established authors.

Ms. Tatlock, who has won numerous literary and popular awards for her novels, including two Christy Awards and two Best Fiction awards from the Midwest Independent Publishers Association, will manage Heritage Beacon Fiction, which will publish works of historical fiction.  Heritage Beacon Fiction plans to release two new books every quarter.

Ms. Tatlock is a former editor of Decision Magazine, a publication of the Billy Graham association, and has published ten novels to date.  She has taught writing courses at Taylor University, at The Midwest Writers Workshop at Ball State University, and has served as a faculty member of the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writer’s Conference.

Ms. Tatlock, who will continue her work as a novelist while in her new position, is married, and lives in Asheville, NC with her husband and daughter.

Ms. Tatlock views historical novels as having a unique purpose.  “Unless we invent a way to travel through time by wiggling through cosmic wormholes, our best hope for experiencing history is through stories. Historical fiction writers have the remarkable opportunity to resurrect the people and events of long-ago eras, making them come alive in the reader’s imagination.”

Heritage Beacon, Ms. Tatlock says, intends to print, “powerful stories that will serve as that vehicle of time travel for those who long to visit the past.  For that reason, we choose manuscripts that demonstrate thorough research and thorough comprehension of the chosen historical era.”

According to Ms. Tatlock, Heritage Beacon will work with authors who have a strong literary voice and a solid understanding of the elements of fiction.  The historical setting of each story serves as the backdrop to a compelling plot played out through the choices and actions of memorable characters.

“Though our stories reveal a Christian worldview, they are not intended to be sermons.  Christian themes and messages ought to arise naturally through the unfolding of the storyline and the development of characters.”

LPC’s Mr. Jones notes that, “By creating a new publishing platform for authors who can publish in e-book and print-on-demand form, LPC creates opportunities for both new and established authors.  We provide assistance with marketing and publicity, and have generous royalty arrangements, including monthly royalty payments.”  Jones emphasizes that these new imprints have been established, “to create new outlets for authors of various genres of fiction, and non-fiction as well.”

Mr. Jones noted that the managing editor Brimstone Fiction, the inspirational speculative fiction imprint, will be announced in the coming weeks.
