Follow on Google News | ![]() New Detroit Public Library TourThe Detroit Public Library Launches New Tour of its Art, Architecture & Collections to Commemorate its Upcoming 150th Year Anniversary Beginning Saturday, December 7, 2013
The Discover the Wonders @ the Detroit Public Library tour is limited to 50 persons and will take place the first Saturday of each month beginning December 7, 2013. Reservations are required to participate. “My hopes with the new "Discover the Wonders of the Detroit Public Library Tour" is to bring awareness to Metro Detroit of the magnificent art, architecture, important historic collections, free programs, and PRIDE that the library brings to the community,” said Barbara Cohn, Head Docent. “I have no doubt that when people take the tour they will be amazed and discover what a treasure the Detroit Public Library – Main Library truly is.” Some of the treasures featured on the library tour include an array of murals, a mosaic comprised of 416,000 pieces of colored glass, a Pewabic fireplace, the oldest working elevator in the city of Detroit and so much more. The Detroit Public Library’s Special Collections will also be featured on the tour including the Burton Historical Collection, the Rare Book Collection, the Ernie Harwell Sports Collection and the E. Azalia Hackley Collection.
