Come support the fastest growing sport in town! PIER 22 announces on Saturday, August 17^th from 6pm to 9pm, it will host a fundraiser for Manatee High Schools rowing team, the MANATEE CREW. An island style buffet will be served for $35 per person and includes one beverage. Live music by T Scott Walker of Margaritaville fame and a silent auction are part of the evening’s entertainment. Ticket purchases and auction donations are being accepted and can be made by contacting Robert DeMino at 941-224-1252 or Margaret Tsai at 941-812-7260.

Participation in this event contributes to the MHS Rowing program, enabling more young people to become involved with this sport. The sport of rowing is teamwork’s best teacher. The crew that is made up of individuals willing to sacrifice their personal goals for the team ends up on the medal stand together. Winning teammates successfully match their desire and talent with one another. This process builds character, loyalty and responsibility. Manatee Crew Rowing is a local program that instills these qualities in young people. Fundraising is necessary to purchase and maintain equipment in competitive condition and to support participation in local and regional regattas. Manatee County Youth Rowing (MCYR) is a not for profit (501c3) corporation.  It was formed to support the high school rowing programs that began with Palmetto High School, followed by Southeast High School and now Manatee High School. The county built a boat house at Ft Hamer Park where all three teams practice together.   Since the Manatee School Board budget was modified prior to Manatee High Crew receiving allocated funds, they are reaching out to the community for your support. All the while sharing a used boat from Palmetto HS, their goal is to raise $10,000 for a new 4 man boat of their own.
