Follow on Google News | DBG Technologies builds Adelaide Cabaret Festival mobile websiteWith mobile browsing tipped to overtake desktop browsing in the next 12-18 months, the Adelaide Cabaret Festival has launched a new website to ensure this year’s event is accessible ‘on the go’.
By: DBG Technologies With this in mind, Adelaide Cabaret Festival event organisers enlisted Adelaide-based DBG Technologies to design a new, dynamic mobile website incorporating cutting edge technology to enable festival-goers to browse shows directly from a mobile device. Adelaide Cabaret Festival Producer Torben Brookman said they identified a need for a mobile-optimised website to remain in touch with the expectations of visitors to the event. “More and more people are looking to their smart phones and other handheld devices to stay informed about events and performance schedules,” Mr Brookman said. “People are also increasingly using their phones to search for events and activities while they are on the go. Having a mobile optimised website is an important feature for us to continue to provide our patrons with the best possible service.” DBG Technologies Managing Director Daniel Wilson said mobile and responsive websites were one of the smartest investments businesses could make in 2012. “Across Asia mobile browsing has already overtaken desktop browsing and within the next year or so this will be the norm in Australia. That means if your brand’s website isn’t mobile, it either won’t work on certain handheld devices or it will be hard to navigate and use, which is bad news for business if that’s where your customers are looking,” Mr Wilson said. “With the Adelaide Cabaret Festival being one of the most celebrated events of its kind in the world, it was essential for them to take this step. “Our task was to create a mobile site with optimal Searching and Browsing functionality – allowing users to search the available shows ‘on the go’ and browse them with ease – without compromising on the visual appeal of the desktop site. Being an arts festival, this element was vital. “Essentially we’ve stayed true to the Festival’s branding but fit it into a smaller screen size and made it easier to navigate and quicker to load. It’s extremely user friendly and will really improve the service experience for festival-goers.” The new site is built on the jQuery mobile framework, incorporating the latest HTML5 and CSS3 technologies. It features a dynamic layout, enabling the appearance and layout of the site to intuitively adapt to suit the resolution of the device that it is being viewed on. For the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, DBG Technologies adapted artwork produced by David Bromley for the desktop site to make it suitable for mobile viewing. * The Telsyte Australian Smartphone Market Study 2011-2015 http://www.telsyte.com.au/?
