Oct. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Irving-Las Colinas, Texas, Chamber of Commerce, and the military-to-civilian recruitment firm RecruitMilitary will collaborate on a hiring event for military veterans at Irving Convention Center on Thursday, November 10. This event, the Hiring Our Heroes/RecruitMilitary Veteran Opportunity Expo, will be part of a nationwide initiative to increase the hiring of veterans by producing special career fair hiring events. The event will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The RecruitMilitary-U.S. Chamber initiative will help Corporate America respond to a challenge issued on August 5 by President Barack Obama. Speaking at the Washington Navy Yard, the President challenged businesses to hire or train 100,000 unemployed veterans or their spouses by the end of 2013.

On March 24, the U.S. Chamber had already launched “Business Steps Up: Hiring Our Heroes,” a year-long effort to help veterans and their spouses find employment by means of veteran hiring events. The U.S. Chamber has scheduled more than 100 Hiring Our Heroes events across the nation through March 2012.

Already scheduled to attend the Irving event are AAFES – the Exchange, Amazon, Argosy University, the Army National Guard, AutoNation, the Baytown Police Department, Bell Helicopter Textron Inc., the City of Irving, Dallas Baptist University, the Dallas Police Department, the Dallas VA North Texas Health Care System, DeVry University, Dover Fluid Management/Cook Compression, DRS Technologies, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Education Corporation of America – Virginia College, , FFE Transportation – Group 1201, First Command Financial Planning, Fritz Industries, GameStop Inc., Georgia School of Construction, Goodman Manufacturing Company LP, Grand Canyon University, the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce, Halliburton Energy Services, Health Management Systems, Ingersoll Rand Company, International Schools, Level One – A Real Page Company, Limestone College, Luminant, MasTec, McLane Advanced Technologies, Military to Medicine, My Computer Career, the National Cemetery Administration of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Veterans Employment Program (NVEP) of the Department of Veterans Affairs, New Horizons Computer Learning Center, Ovation Travel Group, Patterson-UTI Drilling Company, Snap-On Tools, Strayer University, Tarleton State University, The Art Institutes, The Kroger Company, Troops to Teachers, United Rentals Inc., USAA, and World Inspection Network International.

RecruitMilitary will produce four additional Hiring Our Heroes/RecruitMilitary Veteran Opportunity Expos in 2011—on November 17 in Charlotte and Norfolk, December 1 in San Diego, and December 8 in Houston.

To maximize the number of employers participating in those events as well as the job opportunities for veterans and military spouses, RecruitMilitary is offering companies that are members of the U.S. Chamber and local chambers a 10% discount on the cost of their exhibition booths. RecruitMilitary will offer further price reductions for small businesses (businesses that have less than 50 employees), and even lower rates for veteran-owned small businesses.
