The new federal whistleblower law may result in a ‘Win’ for many plaintiffs and their law firms. Tipsters with dreams of becoming millionaires are flooding attorney offices with calls.

The SEC’s new whistleblower program is fully staffed and funded as of August 12, 2011. The SEC’s Enforcement Division is in a position to accelerate the evaluation of tips and referral cases for investigation.

The new law, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act authorizes the SEC to reward those who expose fraud at public companies with 10 to 30 percent of the amount it recovers over $1 million. This so called ‘bounty award’ has snowballed into a growing number of complaints in reference to accounting misconduct, corrupt practices and other violations.
