Sept. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the military-to-civilian recruitment firm RecruitMilitary will collaborate on a hiring event for military veterans at Georgia Dome, home of the Atlanta Falcons, on Thursday, October 20. This event, the Hiring Our Heroes/RecruitMilitary Veteran Opportunity Expo, will be part of a nationwide initiative to increase the hiring of veterans by producing special career fair hiring events. The event will be sponsored by McKesson Corporation, and will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The RecruitMilitary-U.S. Chamber initiative will help Corporate America respond to a challenge issued on August 5 by President Barack Obama. Speaking at the Washington Navy Yard, the President challenged businesses to hire or train 100,000 unemployed veterans or their spouses by the end of 2013.

On March 24, the U.S. Chamber had already launched “Business Steps Up: Hiring Our Heroes,” a year-long effort to help veterans and their spouses find employment by means of veteran hiring events. The U.S. Chamber has scheduled more than 100 Hiring Our Heroes events across the nation through March 2012.

Already scheduled to attend the Atlanta event are Advanced Systems Design Inc.; AIU, IADT/Brooks Institute/Colorado Tech University; Aviation Institute of Maintenance; Brown Mackie College; Central Refrigerated Services; DeVry University; the Georgia Army National Guard; Georgia School of Construction; Goodman Manufacturing Company LP; Grand Canyon University; ICDC College; the Internal Revenue Service (IRS); L-3 Communications Integrated Systems; Limestone College; McKesson Corporation; Merchant’s Tire and National Tire & Battery; Military to Medicine; the National Veterans Employment Program (NVEP) of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs; Northwestern Mutual Financial Network – The Callaway Black Group; Northwestern Mutual - Goodwin, Wright; Oracle; Service-Net LLC; Snap-On Tools; Strayer University; The Art Institutes; TMX Finance; Troy University; UEI College; Union Institute and University; Unum; Verizon FNS; Voice of America; Walgreens; Wellpoint Inc.; and World Inspection Network International.

RecruitMilitary will produce 9 additional Hiring Our Heroes/RecruitMilitary Veteran Opportunity Expos in 2011—on October 20 in Kansas City, October 27 in Jacksonville, November 3 in Philadelphia and Seattle, November 10 in Dallas, November 17 in Charlotte and Norfolk, December 1 in San Diego, and December 8 in Houston.

To maximize the number of employers participating in those events as well as the job opportunities for veterans and military spouses, RecruitMilitary is offering companies that are members of the U.S. Chamber and local chambers a 10% discount on the cost of their exhibition booths. Additionally, RecruitMilitary will offer further price reductions for small businesses (businesses that have less than 50 employees), and even lower rates for veteran-owned small businesses.
