Feb. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- On March 4, Art of the Olympians (AOTO) will welcome Olympian Artist Larry Young to southwest Florida for the opening of Passion in 3D featuring twenty new sculptures.

Larry Young achieved international prominence as a two-time Olympic bronze medalist. To this day, he is still the only American ever to medal in the Olympic sport of race walking (1968, 1972).

Young’s passion for sport and art has converged during his 25-year career as a sculptor. Known for his fluid forms, his innovative use of negative space and his mastery of the bronze medium, Young also works in stainless, steel, marble, and other materials.

His passion for the arts was first discovered during his time in the U.S. Navy where he first learned to cast bronze as a molder. Young went on to study sculpture at Columbia College followed by a two-year fellowship to study sculpture in Italy.

Today he owns and operates a full-scale, 6000 sq. ft. foundry where he personally creates and produces his work.  Fascinated by human movement in dance and athletics as well as human origins, Young often depicts these themes in his sculptures. Young has placed more than 50 monumental outdoor sculptures throughout the world.

Families, friends and community members are invited to attend a special reception, provided by Presenting Donor, Andrew Cochrane, Realtor., on Friday, March 4 from 5-8 p.m. to celebrate the opening of Passion in 3D in the Olympian Art Gallery at the Art of the Olympians  Al  Oerter  Center for Excellence at 1300 Hendry St., Fort Myers, FL
