Follow on Google News | The 12 Days of Video Marketing12 reasons why you should make video a priority in your marketing strategy for 2011.
By: Tom Limb Reason #1: Your Competitors aren’t doing it, yet! Make no mistake; the current economic climate has brought fierce competition to the private sector. Companies are all looking for the new solution in their marketing campaign to set them aside from their competition, and video is the hottest thing out there now. A lot of companies haven’t yet cottoned on to this, so get in there soon before you miss out. Reason #2: Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Neuro - what!? It’s a strange phrase but Neuro-Linguistic Programming is the theory of our cognitive behaviour as humans, exploring the way we think, evaluate and learn. Everyone has a preferred method of learning and processing information, all of which are covered by video. In fact, video is the only format which caters for all of these learning styles, so it is the perfect tool for communicating your message to prospective customers. Reason #3: It’s Time Effective Because it’s so efficient at communicating information, video is therefore a time effective solution. It is quicker and easier for an individual to watch a video than searching through a body of text to retrieve the necessary information. A professionally produced video takes the viewer straight to the point of interest, and helps them learn faster and easier than ever before. Reason #4: Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is to some a bit of a mystery, so we’ll keep this brief. A video on a website, embedded with the appropriate Meta tags, can help boost your website in Google rankings, as well as other search engines. It can help people find the information they are looking for, and directed straight to your site. Simples. Reason #5: Social Media Marketing (SMM) With the phenomenal growth of site like YouTube and Facebook, it’s now even easier to reach out to your customers on a popular and easy-to-use platform. Both the sites mentioned allow you to upload videos of your organisation for promotional purposes, and even link back to your company website. Ignore SMM at your peril. Reason #6: Broadband and High Speed Internet Video is the new photo. Fact. Back in the days of dial-up connections, it was virtually unheard of to have a video on your website. Today, more and more people are realising with increased internet speed, comes increased opportunities to enhance website features, and this includes adding videos. It’s said that a picture paints a thousand words. In the UK, a video is a sequence of 25 pictures in just one second; do the math. Reason #7: Increase in Session Duration The session duration is the average measured time that a user spends on a website. Research has proven that having a video not only increases the time spent on a specific page, but a trend develops for users to explore the rest of the site, which means more possible conversions for you. Reason #8: It’s Emotional Video can be used to spark emotion more than any other format, and you can take advantage of this. Why? Because when making a purchase, a buyer’s choice is governed 20% by logic and 80% emotion. People generally enjoy watching videos, especially if it’s alternative to reading a body of text. If people enjoy being on your site, you’re on to a winner. Reason #9: It’s More Believable An experiment was conducted, whereby potential clients were shown testimonials in both video and text form. The participants were unaware that the content in the text versions were identical to those in the videos. Nearly 100 % of the participants agreed that if they were in the market for the service on offer they would have had no hesitation in buying from the company that used video testimonials. The reasons they gave were that the video versions had much greater impact and credibility, and therefore were much more believable. Reason #10: A Versatile Format A video that has been produced for a website or blog, can be delivered in other formats such as DVD, Blue-Ray, Memory USB sticks, raw video files etc. This is ideal for training purposes, or perhaps sending to a prospective client as a selling tool. Reason #11: Viral Branding The right video, if executed correctly, can generate a huge amount of interest. People love a good viral video, to the extent they will add comments and share it with their peers. These peers will share with their peers and so on, until eventually your video has been viewed people all over the world. If your brand is attached to this then congratulations, you’ve just saved thousands on advertising costs. Reason #12: It’s Cost Effective The price of a having a professionally produced video has drastically reduced in the last 10 years thanks to new technology. In comparison to traditional marketing methods, having a video to promote your organisation is extremely cost effective. The time it saves and the efficiency in which it communicates information helps add to the fact that it is one of the cheapest ways to portray a professional image, and market your organisation effectively. So that’s our list, we hope you found it interesting and if you decide that video is something you need, we hope it works well for you. A small word of warning: Always have your video produced professionally. If you are a professional organisation, you should (needless to say) be looking to maintain that professionalism in everything you publish. A professionally produced video will work wonders for your organisation. An amateur production will do the opposite!
