Oxford Based Video Production Company Thriving After First Year Of Trading

Nov. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- One person in sixety-nine was one figure suggested by the British media, on the chances of graduates landing a job in their chosen profession in the summer of 2010. The increasing number of graduates emerging into the job market, combined with the current economic climate, means that landing that all-important graduate job is more competitive than ever.

Rewind a year and it is more or less the same situation. At this point, two young graduates of Oxford Brookes University decided to buck the trend and launch their own business in their chosen profession of media production. "It was a bit of a no brainer for us", explains co-founder Tom Limb. "The competition for jobs, especially in the media was unbelievable, so we decided we should give it a shot. As long as we made it far enough to build up a portfolio of work and clients we couldn't really lose. If we failed, at least we would have something to show for our efforts, which is more attractive to any employer than a graduate that has just traveled for a year". As it turns out, they didn't fail.

Oxford Media Solutions (OMS) has just passed it's first year of trading, and it seems that the only direction is up. With a long list of clients already under their belt, including Oxfam International and the NHS, OMS are attracting increasing attention from the local and national market. Operating mainly as a B2B company, their services include corporate video production, animation, internet video production and DVD authoring, and pride themselves in offering a personal and professional service.
"When you're a small business trying to break into the market, offering a great service every time is essential", Tom explains. "More than 80% of our turnover comes from repeat business, so keeping the customer happy is very important, which is why we will always put 100% effort into every project".
To mark the end of their fist successful year of trading, OMS have recently updated their website, which includes information about their previous projects and work-flow. The new year is set to be extremely busy, with OMS filming at the NEC arena in Birmingham for 'Get Motivated Great Britain', a motivational conference event with guest speakers including Karen Brady and James Caan. This combined with other corporate projects and even a documentary, means that 2011 is set to be even more successful than this year.
"It's definitely exciting times for us at the moment, but we're keeping our feet firmly planted on the ground. Our philosophy has always been to take one step at a time, and we'll continue to operate this way. In 2011 we'll be looking into office space and a new marketing strategy, to strengthen our position in the local market, so watch this space!".

The journey for OMS has been relatively short so far, but it is safe to say the business will continue to grow with the years to come."I'd like to see more graduates taking the route we did, especially with the current economic climate. Britain needs small businesses like ours and when you're young you can take these sorts of risks. You don't have a mortgage, a wife or kids so if you fail you don't really have anything to lose. It's a lot of hard work but we certainly don't regret it".
