Follow on Google News | IBS Symptoms Melt Away with Creative Visualization and RelaxationIrritable bowel syndrome (IBS) may cease to be an irritation thanks to relaxation techniques from California-based company, PorterVision.
IBS is one of the most common disorders diagnosed by doctors in the U.S. today. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), one in five Americans exhibits symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, though numbers could be higher due to undiagnosed cases; some sources estimate that up to 70% of IBS sufferers don’t receive treatment. “If you’re one of the 20% of Americans diagnosed with IBS, you understand how it can inhibit your activities, even to the point of interfering with your family and social life,” says PorterVision founder Patrick K. Porter, PhD. “It’s not just that you have to go to the bathroom, or that you can’t…irritable bowel is a millstone around your neck, keeping you from fully participating in your life.” The most common symptoms of IBS are cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, and alternating constipation and diarrhea. Though the condition doesn’t permanently harm the colon, it can be embarrassing and disabling when sufferers aren’t able to attend work, school or social events. Medical experts are uncertain what causes IBS. According to the NIH, though, people who suffer from IBS may have colons, or large intestines, that are particularly sensitive to stress or certain foods. Porter says stress plays a major role in irritable bowel syndrome, probably due to the prevalence of super-stress in modern culture. Though there is no known cure for IBS, the field of creative visualization and relaxation (CVR) offers exactly what the doctor ordered for suffering patients. “In the early 1980s, when clients first asked for help with irritable bowel syndrome, little was known about this often-debilitating disorder,” says Porter. “When I took a look at all the symptoms, though, I realized that helping my clients achieve the relaxation response would at minimum serve to relieve symptoms.” Porter’s hunch was right and, with the use of CVR, most of his patients showed improvement within a few short weeks. Later, when a client showed him magazine articles about doctors in the UK routinely sending their IBS patients for relaxation training, Porter says he wasn’t a bit surprised. The success of such methods was the inspiration for his company’s recent CVR series dedicated to IBS relief. CVR is effective, says Porter, because it teaches people to reduce stress and eliminate the emotional triggers that cause bouts of IBS. At the same time, creative visualization exercises also help people develop healthy eating habits and avoid foods that might spark another round of suffering. “Research shows that the best way to handle IBS is to eat a healthy diet, avoid foods that make you feel worse and manage your stress,” says Porter. “PorterVision’ With more than 20 years of experience in the field of mind technology, Dr. Patrick Porter has also found that the effectiveness of creative visualization is strengthened when combined with his trademarked ZenFrames. ZenFrames are glasses and earphones that deliver finely-tuned light and sound frequencies to synchronize the left and right sides of the brain and produce full-spectrum brainwave activity for a deeply relaxing experience. “The power-packed combination of CVR sessions and ZenFrames helps IBS sufferers achieve unprecedented levels of relaxation and create homeostasis for a symptom-free future,” Porter says. “They transport people’s minds into the deepest meditative states, magnifying the effect of the binaural beats and allowing users to achieve better results in far less time.” That may sound like science fiction, but the facts show quick relief from a painful condition. A 20-mintue session on ZenFrames is equal to four hours of sleep; that means a more restful experience for people whose symptoms have kept them awake at night. ZenFrames are also simple to use, since they plug into any MP3 player. Most importantly, when used in combination with CVR audio sessions, ZenFrames get irritable bowel sufferers back in balance and eliminate the symptoms of IBS. Porter stresses that, though CVR is mind technology, it really is a multi-pronged approach to dealing with irritable bowel syndrome. Sessions like “Being Physically and Mentally Balanced,” “Using Your Mind to Regulate Your Body” and “Tips on Controlling IBS for a Healthy Life” are all geared to covering every facet of this mind/body disease. “Whatever factors are involved in an individual’s IBS, our CVR sessions guide users to make positive changes that help them regain control no matter where they are,” says Porter. “Stress, fiber levels, diet…whatever the cause, our clients visualize and create new realities as they learn new ways to cope. That doesn’t just affect the colon; that makes for an all-around healthier life.” # # # Dr. Patrick Porter is the author of a number of books on mind technology including the award-winning Awaken the Genius and his new release, Thrive in Overdrive.
