North Warwickshire IT firm makes key appointmentA computer expert, who loves scuba diving in his spare time, is set to make a splash in his new role at a Warwickshire IT firm.
The 32-year-old began his career in the industry 11 years ago when a chance remark from a colleague opened the door to the world of IT. He said: “I used to work in the car industry and had held a range of positions. One of my roles involved me working on dummy terminals and one of the guys thought I was a bit of a whiz. “He mentioned a job opportunity at British Waterways in IT and I jumped at the chance. “The department was taken over by Fujitsu and I moved up through the company and built up a range of qualifications including Novel Certification, Microsoft accreditation and a range of management qualifications. Eventually I was responsible for more than 30 support staff.” He added: “I am delighted with the move here to Acutec. We deal with a range of clients across the globe but we still have a ‘family’ company feel. “The boss knows who you are and you know when you have made a positive impact on the business. “Occasionally, I have to jump on the phone or remote into a client’s server but the vast majority of my work is in a management role.” Away from his desk, Richard enjoys scuba diving and is a member of a club in Lutterworth. “I was the fastest to qualify as a sports diver in the club’s history,” he said. “It’s a great skill to have because it’s not something you have to do every week but you can make use of it any time. I’ve been to Egypt and dived over 40 metres and have seen Conga eels, manta rays and sea turtles.” Chris Roche, managing director of Acutec, said Richard’s role would be key to helping the business grow.
