Nikko's Two Shrines and One Temple -- Nikko Tosho-gu, the mausoleum of the first Tokugawa shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu; Futarasan Shrine founded in 782; and Rinno-ji Temple, founded in 766 -- were together registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
