July 30, 2010 - PRLog -- While Dr Pat O’Farrell first described two-dimensionalelectrophoresis (2DE) of proteins 35 years ago, it remains one of the most widely used tools in proteomics today. Continuing refinements of 2DE, particularly the development of immobilized pH gradients, new surfactants that increase and maintain protein solubility, and sample fractionation, have further increased the utility of the method.

In this article recently published by a team of scientists from the University of New Hampshire the entire 2D workflow is managed within 5 hours. This shows exactly how 2D gel polyacrylamide electrophoresis tools and techniques have developed in recent years. The work was carried out using the Hoefer Isoelectric Focusiing unit, SERVA Immobilized pH gradient precast gels and a standard gel electrophoresis protocol.

The article is available for download at http://www.biopoint.co.uk/pub/files/Product%20Files/Articles/1280499948_2-D%20in%20a%20Day.pdf

Or by visiting the Biopoint website at www.biopoint.co.uk.

BioPoint is the marketing partner of Hoefer and SERVA and has announced that it intends to introduce many new products and innovations in the area of 2D electrophoresis and Electrophoresis imaging in the coming months.
