Jan. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- Oakton, VA —Mosaic Harmony, an interfaith, multicultural community choir, is pleased to announce that the theme of their spring 2010 concerts in celebration of 17 years of service to the Greater Washington, D.C. area will be “One Humankind”.  The concerts will take place Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 7 p.m. at Bishop Ireton High School, 201 Cambridge Road, Alexandria, VA 22314, with a second concert also at the school, on Sunday, May 2, 2010, at 5 p.m.

The spring concert features a compilation of songs ranging from traditional and contemporary African-American gospel to music written by their dynamic and talented director, is the highlight of the choral season and is its largest fundraising effort each year.  The theme of “One Humankind” is the title of the latest song added to the choir’s repertoire and speaks directly to its mission of unifying the world one song at a time.  “In the wake of the Haiti earthquake and aftershocks, difficult wars in two countries, economic distress for families and companies, we believe that the message of one humankind is needed more than ever”, said director David North, who wrote the song specifically for Mosaic Harmony to perform.

The concerts are high-energy, inspiring performances that leave its audiences feeling uplifted and encouraged.  Bringing together people of diverse cultures, ages, backgrounds, and more than 17 faith traditions to celebrate humanity is Mosaic Harmony’s vision to be a source of inspiration on a local, national, and global level.

Performances have provided encouragement and hope to families in hospice care, residents of mental health facilities, residents living in retirement communities, and to the public for 17 years.  The choir’s season began in September with its most recent performance for the staff at Washington Hospital Center celebrating the legacy and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on January 15, 2010.

The rousing ovation from the audience after the performance prompted the hospital’s event planner to book the choir for the hospital's 2011 celebration.  The mini-concert gave the choir an opportunity to perform the song “One Humankind” and three other selections for the audience and guest speaker Dr. Dorothy Height, who noted her favorite selection from the performance was the choir’s upbeat arrangement of a gospel classic, “This Little Light of Mine”.

Sponsorship opportunities and ticket sales for the May concert will be available online beginning March 1 or at any of the performances leading up to the spring concert.  Tickets will be $25 for adults, $20 for seniors (60 and over) and students, and free for kids 12 and under and group ticket pricing is available by contacting Linda Robinson at tickets@mosaicharmony.org.   For more information on the choir, performance schedule or rehearsals, visit the website at www.mosaicharmony.org or contact Janet Pressler, concert coordinator at concerts@mosaicharmony.org
