By: Fleetrates.com The 2010 Toyota Sequoia ranks 1 out of 10 Affordable Large SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 22 published reviews and test drives of the Toyota Sequoia, and our analysis of reliability and safety data. With strong towing capabilities and a comfortable cabin that includes a spacious and comfortable third-row seat, the Toyota Sequoia is an excellent alternative to domestic full-size SUVs. The Sequoia, however, is like that age-old question about the tree falling in the woods. If Toyota makes a great large SUV (named after a tree, of course) but doesn't advertise it, will anyone know about it? Truck Trend says Toyota "dares not advertise this mega-guzzler much for fear of eroding its moral hybrid high ground." And therein lies the problem: In this market, Toyota depends on its reputation as the maker of green cars like the Prius to move sales, so even though it's made what some reviewers think is a best-in-class SUV, Toyota doesn't want to tell anyone. Based on the Toyota Tundra, the Sequoia builds on the Tundra's massive towing capabilities and tough-guy styling. Inside, the Sequoia has a large and comfortable cabin with a third-row seat reviewers don't complain about, which is rare. When you add in handy tech features, a driving experience that's good for a large SUV and plenty of safety equipment, you have what some reviewers say is a worthy challenger to class leaders from GM. The 2010 Toyota Sequoia is a full-size SUV capable of seating seven or eight, depending on the options selected. There are three trim levels -- SR5, Limited and Platinum -- and all are available with either two- or four-wheel drive. The base SR5 model comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, a roof rack, a sunroof, a 40/20/40-split second-row bench seat, triple-zone automatic climate control, heated side mirrors, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with audio controls, full power accessories, a power driver seat, Bluetooth (with audio streaming) and an eight-speaker CD stereo with satellite radio, auxiliary audio and USB audio jacks. The Limited adds 20-inch wheels, running boards, leather upholstery, upgraded instrumentation, a back-up camera integrated into the rearview mirror and an upgraded 14-speaker JBL sound system with a six-CD changer. The top-of-the-line Sequoia Platinum adds load-leveling rear air springs, adaptive shock absorbers, a power liftgate, a sunroof, heated and cooled front seats, heated second-row captain's chairs (dropping capacity to seven), power-folding and -reclining rear seats, a navigation system, a back-up camera and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel.
