Fouad Idbafdil: Turning a Journey of Displacement Into a Mission of Global Inspiration

PARIS - Aug. 21, 2025 - PRLog -- Once a displaced refugee from Morocco, Fouad Idbafdil leveraged his military training to achieve athletic excellence as a steeplechaser.

Fouad Idbafdil and His Journey

Idbafdil was born on February 9, 1988, in Morocco, and was once a proud member of the nation's military. Amidst challenges, he left the country as a refugee, seeking asylum first in Sweden and then France.

Once he received his refugee status in France, Idbafdil trained to be a steeplechaser for the Athlete Refugee Team (ART). Though he faced a number of challenges, Idbafdil never backed down, keeping up with his training.

Today, he is a proud representative for refugees across the globe, who have had to leave their homes owing to environmental issues, conflict, and political unrest.

Idbafdil's Achievements as an Athlete

Fouad Idbafdil has never been one to back down from a challenge; his persevering and resilient nature helping him use his hardships as fuel for success. As a member of the Athlete Refugee Team, Idbafdil competes in the 3000m steeplechase event in various international sporting events.

Over the length of his athletic career, Idbafdil has had two notable achievements:

• Best Time: 8:34.72 and score: 1101 at the Stade Raymond Troussier in Decines, France.
• Best Time: 8:15.06 and score: 990 at the Stadium Miramas Métropole in Miramas, France.

To help train for international athletic and sporting events, Idbafdil also received the International Olympic Committee scholarship and was sponsored by his country of residence.

Idbafdil believes in leading by example, and as such, shows people how to succeed despite adverse situations and limited opportunities. As a spokesperson for refugees across the globe, Idbafdil calls attention to the challenges faced by refugees and urges those in power to provide equal opportunities to all.
