The World Sees an Athlete, While Fouad Idbafdil Sees a Voice for the Voiceless

Who is Fouad Idbafdil?

Fouad Idbafdil is a 37-year-old steeplechaser hailing from Morocco. Now he is residing in France as a refugee. He holds the position of steeplechaser on the prestigious Athlete Refugee Team and competes in the 3000m event.

Once a proud member of the Moroccan military, Idbafdil fled his country to seek refuge owing to disturbances. Then, he used his skills to train as an athlete and achieved the sought-after position in the ART.

Over his illustrious career, Idbafdil recorded a best time of 8:34.72 with a score of 1101 (Stade Raymond Troussier in Decines, France). Prior to this, his best time was 8:15.06, though with a lower score of 990 (Stadium Miramas Métropole in Miramas, France).

What Made Idbafdil the Man He is Today

Any person who flees their country as a refugee comes from a place of serious hardships, and the same is true for Fouad Idbafdil. However, the difference between him and the million other refugees is that he did not wish to just survive but thrive.

Once he obtained refugee status in France, he started to train as an athlete. After becoming a steeplechaser for the ART, he trained twice as hard to hold on to it and succeed in international events.

Not once did he allow circumstances to hinder his goals, as he kept aiming high and working hard to break through every barrier.

Idbafdil has always been an advocate of refugee rights, calling for equal opportunities and representation. At every turn, he tries to bring the struggles of refugees to light. Idbafdil also motivates refugees to dream big, seek opportunities, and make the most of them.
