| ![]() Fouad Idbafdil: From Exile to Excellence on the Global TrackHardships are there to be overcome and not become permanent roadblocks that can stop talented and determined people from going forth and succeeding.
By: Fouad Idbafdil Fouad Idbafdil's Athletic Track and Trajectory Idbafdil fought hard to earn and solidify his position on the athlete refugee team. He has the grit and determination of a military man, which served him well on his journey. Steadily, he built the skills necessary to become a steeplechaser and valued member of the Athlete Refugee Team. In the 3000m event, Idbafdil's most recent best time is 8:34.72 with a score of 1101 (Stade Raymond Troussier in Decines, France). His past recorded best time is 8:15.06 (though a lower score of 990) at Stadium Miramas Métropole in Miramas, France. How He Used His Exile to Fuel His Excellence Born on February 9, 1988, Fouad Idbafdil left his home country of Morocco and a position in its military to first reach Sweden and then France for asylum. Idbafdil did not let this disadvantageous position limit his career. Instead, he fought to get on the route to success and trained as an athlete. Idbafdil's potential and prowess as an athlete and steeplechaser were the reasons why he qualified for financial aid from his host country of France. Further, he competed in international events, making his skill visible and inspiring refugees everywhere to pursue their dreams. What makes His Fight an Inspiration Idbafdil did not have a smooth way to athletic success nor a hurdle-free career. From his time in exile as a refugee till the time he became a part of the ART, Idbafdil never let up on his dreams. Further leveraging his visibility as an athlete, he urges equal chances to be made available to refugees. He also shows that with hard work, determination, and an indomitable spirit, no milestone is out of reach. End
