Follow on Google News | Sechs Lieder by Clara Schumann transcribed for either Alto Flute or Clarinet in lieu of VoiceIn her Sechs Lieder, Op. 13, first published in 1844, Clara Schumann set to music six German poems—two by Heinrich Heine, three by Emanuel Geibel, and one by Friedrich Rückert. The texts of these poems explore common themes of the German Romantic era, such as love, longing, sadness, loss, intimacy, death, and nature. Many of Clara Schumann's songs were composed as gifts for her beloved husband Robert; they are typically romantic, melodic and highly expressive. The Sechs Lieder of Op.13 convey the broad array of intense emotions portrayed in the poetry that inspired them, and they are absolutely charming. They are also nicely adaptable for a solo instrument in lieu of voice, and are particularly lovely when played on either alto flute or clarinet, instruments for which the voice lines fall completely in range. NSM has just published parts for either alto flute or B-flat-clarinet, transcribed from the original Sechs Lieder voice lines.
