Dance Returns to the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, June 16-17Dance@theHolden Presents Bernard Brown/bbmoves, Laurie Sefton Creates,
JazzAntiqua Dance Ensemble and Josette Wiggan Presents… Propelled by the transformative power of dance, Bernard Brown/bbmoves founded in 2014 by choreographer Bernard Brown began as a call to action inspired by arts and social justice movements of the past and present. His work melds African Diasporic movement and postmodern sensibilities while centering community and healing. Laurie Sefton Creates under the artistic direction of choreographer Laurie Sefton presents multi-layered, issue-based work that is dense, detailed, emotional and technically difficult. Her work struggles, confronts and inspires, creating space for viewers to find personal interest and deep connection. Celebrating 30 years, JazzAntiqua Dance Ensemble continues artistic director-choreographer Pat Taylor's mission of celebrating the jazz tradition as rooted in the African American experience, with a distinct call to freedom, self-determination, reclamation and JOY! The Company embodies the movement in the music, and the lineage, language, history and continuum therein. Josette Wiggan, visionary and choreographer of Josette Wiggan Presents… honors the innate ability of people of color to persevere against all odds. Her tap dance work explores that place where joy is expressed through release, where breakthrough becomes sacred space, and the struggle of the everyday dissipates. Dance@theHolden is Ebony Repertory Theatre's signature dance series. It showcases ERT's commitment to supporting and partnering with local dance companies and artistic directors to bring electrifying, expressive, and engaging dance to the community. www.ebonyrep.org Photo: https://www.prlog.org/ End
