One of a few companies committed to the presentation of concert jazz dance, JazzAntiqua Dance & Music Ensemble was founded in 1993 to celebrate jazz as a vital thread in the cultural fabric of African American history and heritage, and a defining element of the American experience. Recent projects include: presentation of a one day jazz dance conference The Movement in the Music 2017 (Los Angeles, CA), Rhythmically Speaking Dance 2016 at The Southern Theatre (Minneapolis, MN), Black Choreographers Festival 2016 at the Odell Johnson Theatre - Laney College (Oakland, CA), and the 8th Annual Congresso Internacional de Jazz Dance (Brazil).
The company has performed at a number of distinguished venues, including: Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, Hollywood Bowl (Playboy Jazz Festival 2013, 2017), Ford Amphitheatre, Luckman Fine Arts Complex, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Irvine Barclay Theatre, Lehman Performing Arts Center (New York, NY), California African American Museum, and Dance Mission Theatre (San Francisco, CA).
JazzAntiqua is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including grants from California Arts Council, Doolittle Foundation, Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Frances E. Williams Artists' Grants, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions and Toyota, USA.
