Follow on Google News | 1 000 Answers for Girls in STEM Campaign LaunchedBy: MathsGee MathsGee has launched a campaign to get 1 000 answers to the question: "How can we get more girls to thrive in STEM subjects and careers?". The organization has posted the question on their Q&A website, https://mathsgee.com and are inviting men and women from all walks of life to contribute by answering. Edzai Zvobwo, the founder of MathsGee believes that everyone should contribute to the ideas that will solve the gender-based inequality within the STEM fraternity. By crowd-sourcing solutions online, we will be able to harness the ideas of people who might never be in the same spaces. Every year, in August, South Africa celebrates Women's Month, to pay tribute to the women who, on the 9th of August marched to the Union Buildings in protest the extension of Pass Laws for women. This month serves as an opportunity for the country to reflect and measure the progress achieved towards gender equality and broad-based transformation in all spheres of life. Given the fundamental nature of the problem of gender disparity in society, it is paramount that every organization and individual endeavours to critically reflect and act towards a just society that treats women with the dignity they deserve. This has prompted MathsGee to play its part and contribute to the discourse through crowd-sourcing answers to the question of inclusion within STEM. This is in line with the organization's mission to democratize access to quality STEM learning resources and support. MathsGee is walking the talk and is seeing its girlchild-focused initiatives bearing fruit. Of the 1,2 million users that visited MathsGee in the year to date, 59% of them were female. This can be attributed to targeted campaigns to get more girls to pursue STEM careers. MathsGee has previously partnered with organizations such as SABC Education, L'Oréal, GenderLinks, UN Women among others in a bid support the girlchild in STEM.
