SAN DIEGO - June 9, 2022 - PRLog -- The sky's the limit to a child's success when their parents support, encourage and love them unconditionally. By spending quality time together and learning about their child's interests, parents can help create opportunities for them to succeed in all aspects of their lives by introducing them to music, dance, theater, art and sports. This type of positive upbringing can develop their child's highest potential by providing immediate growth in their child's academic, social and emotional skill sets.

"Our goal is to expand each child's academic ceiling by allowing children to follow their individual passions at their own speed, thereby building their discipline, confidence, respect, and independence," Kelly McFarland, M.Ed., Director, says.

The Montessori Method Explained

For six generations, Dr. Maria Montessori's educational philosophy has been used to teach children. Today, more than 3,000 American preschools and elementary schools embrace her methodology—respecting children, giving them freedom, allowing them to go at their own speed and letting them follow their passions.

As a result, children become interested in school because they control their learning. Since they personally buy in, their gains are more than just academic.

Social and Emotional Benefits

La Jolla Montessori school provides the space for children to learn social and emotional skills. They work on projects with both older and younger classmates to gain the knowledge they wouldn't get if all their classmates were the same calendar age. "Older classmates learn how to cooperate with younger students vice-versa which creates a space for classmates to become partners. We have found that this method also cuts bullying," McFarland says.

"Instead of timeouts, we listen to each child one-on-one and interact with them like adults before crafting a response. As a result, they learn to think about what it would be like to step into the other child's shoes." She continues.

"Academically, Montessori wants kids to do for themselves. That means our teachers don't give answers. Instead, they guide students by answering their questions with more questions. That way, children learn to develop well-rounded sets of answers intended to get them to think. And learning how to think rather than memorize facts is one reason why we call our approach The Montessori Edge," McFarland said.
