SMITHFIELD, N.C. - June 9, 2020 - PRLog -- A 33-year-old Louisiana state trooper who succumbed last weekend to injuries sustained in an accidental crash May 20 will be honored with a new apparel fundraiser in support of his family.

Shield Republic Charities announced today that they will run a "Hold the Line" fundraiser for the bereaved loved ones of Trooper George Baker, who lost his life on Saturday, May 24.

Trooper Baker and other law enforcement professionals were providing back up during a chase involving the Hammond Police Department in Hammond, Louisiana. Baker and another officer successfully stopped a vehicle fleeing from a traffic stop using deflater strips. When they went to remove the deflater strips from the road, both troopers were accidentally struck by a passing police cruiser.

The suspects were eventually captured after a foot chase that ensued after their vehicle was stopped by the deflater strips.

Trooper Baker was transported to the hospital, where he died four days after the crash. The other officer is expected to recover.

Through their "Hold the Line fundraiser, the American lifestyle brand will make available commemorative apparel including t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, ladies' tank tops and decals. All net proceeds from the sale will be donated to Trooper Baker's wife and daughter.

"Trooper Baker died in the midst of a brave act of service, and for that we salute him," said Charlie Romero, spokesperson for Shield Republic. "We hope our newest Hold the Line campaign will show solidarity with the Louisiana law enforcement community while supporting Trooper Baker's family during this time of loss."

Baker was a combat veteran who served with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for eight years. He worked in law enforcement for a decade in roles with the Greensburg Police Department, St. Helena Parish Sheriff's Office, and the Louisiana State Police Troop L, where he had served since 2017.
