The first world competition for transparency in the news through artificial intelligence is here

WEMBLEY, U.K. - Jan. 10, 2019 - PRLog -- In the end of January there will be international science competition, which aims to find a permanent solution to the problem with the manipulation in the news by creating an algorithm that detects where and what propaganda there is in a text.

In support of this initiative, some of the world's largest universities - the Qatar Institute for Computer Research, MIT, Sheffield, California, Michigan, and Texas - have already responded. At a local level, the Data Science Society is working with A Data Pro, which ensures that they have the needed data for the case on which will be tested the solutions.

Algorithms to identify propaganda in the news

The next cause of Data Science Society is again related to the content of the news, this time they have set themselves the goal to find algorithms that identify manipulative approaches in the presentation of information by the media, or so- propaganda. With the growing role of the social networks in our everyday lives, we've all seen the viral popularity of the fake news. Over time, our society has gained experience in recognizing and separating the false information. Very often, however, we become the victim of manipulative approaches that are not so clearly identifiable, but have the power to change the collective view and to influence different processes in our society. A recent example of such an approach was the Brexit phenomenon in the UK which, in addition to a large amount of funny pictures on the Internet, also gave a clearer picture of what influence the manipulated information sources can have on important collective decisions.

Fighting manipulation in news through artificial intelligence

The approach which Data Science Society has taken in its fight against the propaganda is directed towards the use of scientific algorithms to scan large amounts of text data, and by analyzing the writings it will be able to identify articles that use techniques for manipulation of the public opinion. In this direction around 200 experts from all over the world will work together, formed in teams, each of which will present a different solution to the problem. The final results will be presented at the Data Science Society Hack the News Datathon (https://www.datasciencesociety.net/datathon/?utm_source=d...), which will be held in the period of January 21-27, 2019.

If you like the idea and want to read news without propaganda and manipulation, you can support the prize fund, which will be gathered through the public - with a fundraising campaign (https://gogetfunding.com/hack-the-news-datathon-fight-new...) in the crowdfunding platform to reward the best decisions. The Data Science Society believes that the public support and active participation in causes that affect everyone is the best sustainable solution.

The Data Science Society is a global community of people involved in the so-called Data Science and for 4 years has applied the expertise of its members for various social and business causes. Among the most significant achievements of the international organization with over 1,800 experts and enthusiasts are the development of tools to predict air pollution in the urban environment and the use of self-learning algorithms to identify fake news. The motto of these initiatives is that any social problem can be solved with the help of the whole society and the collective efforts in the right direction.
